Belize Weather - Belize has a sub-tropical climate. Average humidity is 85% and most of it is on the coastlines and rainforests. The temperature in Belize will be in the range of 60 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and the average is 79 degrees Fahrenheit. The western and interior regions in Belize are typically warmer than the eastern coastline because they do not get the ocean breees.

Belize is susceptible to two types of extreme weather conditions: northers and hurricanes. Northers is a name given to cold air masses that come from the northeast between November and February and bring heavy rains along with cooler temperatures. Northers are a minor disturbance to the natives of Belize. Fishing and diving operations are temporarily disrupted but that is about the extent of it. Backpackers like the cooler and moist conditions brought on by the northers for hiking through the rainforests . The other more serious extreme weather conditions here are hurricanes which have been known to be quite devastating in Belize. The official hurricane season starts on June 1 each year.

Belize, like other tropical regions in Central America, has a definite rainy and dry season. January is the coldest month (temperatures drop no lower than 60 degrees Fahrenheit) and May has the hottest temperatures. During the dry season, there may be some rain but it is a predictable amount. And each year, there may be variations from the normal average rainfall. The number of rainy days varies from place to place in Belize as well. Belize District has around 171 rainy days each year in comparison to the Cayo District and Stann Creek District which have 125 and 183 rainy days respectively each year.

One of the characteristics of Belize weather will affect tourists who hike in the rainforests of Belize should exercise caution because of the high humidity (85%) and heat. Hikers should drink significant amounts of water and try not to be outdoors in the middle part of the day when the sun is at is highest and the heat is the most intense. There is a significant risk of heat injury if precautions are not followed.
